Welcomehotel Residenzschloss Bamberg, Untere Sandstraße 32, 96049 Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany

The history of Bamberg dates back to the 9th century. Unsurprisingly then, the Franconian city at the mouth of the Regnitz has accumulated an impressive array of art, culture and architecture throughout the ages - above all the old town, which was crowned an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. Set aaround the imposing Bamberg Cathedral, it inspires with its romantic romantic alleys which lead you past about 2,400 original half-timbered houses.

Monasteries, churches and museums gather here to form a cornucopia of inspiration, but a special highlight is the inimitable ambience of the Old Town Hall, which is enthroned on an island in the Regnitz River. From here you stroll over picturesque arched bridges to the river banks, where you will not only be wandering through the centuries, but can also get an idea of why this charming part of Bamberg has earned the pretty nickname Little Venice during a gondola ride or boat tour at the sight of quaint fishermen's cottages.
