Location and what's nearby

A592, Glenridding, Penrith CA11 0PB

At seven and a half miles long, Ullswater is England’s second-largest lake, so it’s easy to imagine why it’s the focus of most of the appeal. Explore the waters by a relaxing steamer cruise - the boats leave from a mooring just five minutes’ walk from the hotel - or add a touch of adrenaline by hiring your own sailboat, canoe or kayak to get a close-up experience.

The mountains that surround the lake are renowned for excellent hiking: hardcore hikers will relish the challenge of Helvellyn, the start of the trail accessible just a few minutes outside of town, though there are many more sedate trails to follow locally too. Other must-see sights including Aira Force waterfall, Lowther Castle and Gardens and Dalemain Historic House.
