Via S. Caterina, 4/P, 38062 Arco TN, Italy

Situated to the North of the famous Lake Garda, your quintessential Italian break starts here. The largest lake in Italy, you’ve a wealth of tiny towns brimming with character to explore: Arco itself - so named for the shape the buildings take as they wrap themselves around the steep hills - has a long history of being a place of natural healing, thanks to its clean air, mild climate and Mediterranean gardens. Spend half a day climbing up and wandering around the town’s medieval castle, a majestic fortress perched on the hillside.

A little to the south, you’ll find Riva del Garda, the lake’s northernmost resort. As well as the Museo Civico and the 13th-century Torre Apponale, there’s a myriad of cafés and restaurants for you to check out. On the lake itself, the northern end is popular with windsurfers who take advantage of the strong winds caused by the mountain ranges behind - so if you’ve ever fancied trying out a new sport, now could very well be the time.
