Dorfpl. 1, 3954 Leukerbad, Switzerland

With a backdrop that has to be seen to be believed, the town of Leukerbad is tucked amongst the giant peaks of the Swiss Alps. Beyond the snow-capped mountains and ski slopes, the town is most famous for its thermal waters. Every day 3.9 million litres of water flow into the 65 thermal springs, and you can bubble away to your heart’s content after days in the snow. When it comes to skiing, there are 50 kilometres of pistes and 30 kilometres of cross-country trails to keep you occupied, plus plenty to do for non-skiers too. A huge indoor sports centre is on hand for ice skating, rock climbing and even curling, and hikers will appreciate the trails in both summer and winter, weather permitting.
