Hilton Garden Inn Tirana, Bulevardi Gjergj Fishta 146, Tirana 1001, Albania

The beating heart of the city is doubtlessly Skanderbeg Square. Be sure to spend some time in this bustling main plaza, where you can find the 18th-century Et'hem Bej Mosque - an ornate cultural monument decorated with colourful frescoes - as well as the National Historical Museum, packed with artefacts from Albania’s fascinating history. For a less-traditional museum experience, head over to Bunk’Art 2, a history museum housed inside a preserved, Communist-era nuclear pit bunker.

Why not head a little out of the city for a change of scenery? You can catch the Dajti Ekspres - the longest cable car in the Balkans at 4.7 kilometres long - and enjoy the 15-minute journey up the side of Dajti Mountain as you’re carried over forests and farms. The Dajti National Park offers plenty of opportunities for scenic hiking and mountain biking, as well as an 18-hole mini-golf course, a 360-degree rotating bar, an adventure park and an award-winning restaurant. If you’re brave enough, you could even paraglide down to the bottom of the mountain!
