Property details

Quintessential British charm at an idyllic Lake District country house - includes breakfast, one dinner credit, and more
  • A stand-out stay: Nestled between Keswick and the southern shores of Derwentwater, the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence-awarded Borrowdale Hotel offers comfortable rooms and beautiful views within a property that dates back to 1866, with many period features still intact and bucket-loads of warm, rural charm.

  • Distinguished dining: Alongside a walk-in wine cellar stocked with vintage bottles, The Borrowdale Hotel houses an elegant restaurant serving superb British dishes made using fresh, local ingredients. Unsurprisingly, the succulent Sunday roasts and afternoon teas with scones and clotted cream are a popular indulgence.

  • Relax in style: You'll find plenty of places to unwind here, including the lounge with its burning log fires, a conservatory and scenic gardens, but the bedrooms are where you'll want to while the hours away. Traditional in style, they are classic havens and perfect for winding down in after a day of sightseeing.

How to get there

The hotel sits in the pretty region of Keswick, just a 10-minute drive from the town's centre. It's located south of Derwentwater lake and is perfectly placed for both lowland activity and hill-walking. On-site parking is available, and given the rural nature of the Lake District, we'd recommend coming via your own car.

Good to know

Please note that a smart-casual dress code applies in the restaurant, and ripped or torn jeans and trainers are not permitted.

When it comes to quiet country walks, slow-roasted lunches and local ales in old-world pubs, the Lake District has it all. At its heart, the Lake District National Park is the largest protected national park in England and boasts miles of mountainous scenery, lakes and oak woodland.

Visit the nearby centre of Keswick to find a number of market town shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as the quirky Cumberland Pencil Museum. Just out of town is Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back to Neolithic times, and if you fancy scaling dizzying heights for mesmerising views, take a challenging climb up Skiddaw mountain. Another must-do is a boat trip on Derwentwater itself – a truly memorable experience.
