Iconic Devon Art Deco landmark hotel

Burgh Island Hotel, Bigbury On Sea

Time-limited

Property details

A once-in-a-lifetime stay at an Art Deco icon on a private island in south Devon - includes breakfast, a half-bottle of Champagne in your room on arrival, optional dinner and suite options.
  • Private island living: Cut off twice-daily from Bigbury-on-Sea by the clockwork tides, Burgh Island Hotel is an Art Deco icon that’s remained largely unchanged in its illustrious history because everything works so well. Once a regular haunt for Agatha Christie and Noel Howard, bring your best threads and enjoy revelling in stories recounted by the long-standing staff.

  • Memorable wining and dining: Dining is a laid-back affair at The Nettlefold, which is on-hand with a menu crafted from fresh local produce and stunning views. Start with canapes and cocktails in the Palm Court Lounge, before moving to the ballroom for three-course dinners accompanied by a live band or pianist. There's also the historic Pilchard Inn Pub, which tells tales as old as time, including those about former patrons like renowned smuggler, Tom Crocker.

  • Laid-back luxury: Many of this eco-friendly hotel’s rooms and suites have been named in homage to famous past guests in a nod to the hotel’s lengthy history. Individually designed, each is kitted out in Art Deco styling, with a lack of TVs adding to the bygone era-feel. Add a little more indulgence to your stay with a massage, treatment or facial in the pampering treatment room.

Burgh Island Hotel, Bigbury-on-Sea, South Devon TQ7 4BG

You’d love getting stranded here: cut off by the tides on a 10-acre private island cast adrift off the coast of South Devon. Each day the tide rises and retreats, so you’ll be carted across (luggage in tow) by a Land Rover (low tide) or a special elevated sea tractor (high tide). The hotel has beautiful sea views that will tempt you out to enjoy breezy coastal rambles, or you could head over to Bigbury-on-Sea to explore the mainland with the rest of the landlubbers.
