Property details

A brand-new, stylish boutique hotel within a Victorian townhouse easily walkable to the city centre and station – includes breakfast, glass of prosecco and late check-out
  • A new name for York: New Holgate only opened its doors a short while ago and is a refreshing new addition to York’s luxury hotel scene. The restful boutique hotel occupies an attractive terrace of Grade II-listed Victorian townhouses, and each of the rooms and suites has its own character, though super-comfy Hypnos beds, smart TVs, tea and coffee making facilities and locally-sourced bathroom amenities come as standard – just what you need for a relaxing city break.

  • All about brunch: The hotel’s owners have made a commitment to try and source everything locally, so the laid-back breakfast room serves the very best of Yorkshire ingredients with a twist. While all the favourites are there, including the ‘full Yorkshire’, you’ll also find spicy eggs and tomato tartare, with eggs, cheese, ham, black pudding and yogurt all sourced within 40 miles.

  • York on foot: The hotel’s in a great setting for exploring the city whilst being just a touch outside of the bustling centre. Most sights are walkable within 30 minutes, including York Minster and a huge range of bars and restaurants, though the hotel also has its own bar and outside courtyard offering fresh juices, freshly roasted coffee, artisan teas and classic cocktails.

How to get there

New Holgate has a convenient setting just west of the city centre. The train station is about 10 minutes’ walk away (or you could take a taxi) and if you’re driving, the A46 is about 2.4 miles away at Askham Bar. The hotel offers private parking and two electric vehicle charging points.

York ticks all the boxes for a weekend (or more) escape, with history, great British grub and culture all in one neat, fantastically walkable package. The city is perhaps best known for its defensive walls, which are the longest and best preserved in England and can be explored on various walking tours. History buffs can marvel at the magnificent medieval York Minster, with its world-class status and 2,000 years of history. Pay the Shambles a visit, where you’ll find timber-framed buildings dating back to the late 14th and 15th centuries.

You can’t beat marvelling at mechanical wonders (including the Japanese Bullet Train) at the National Railway Museum and spending time at the Jorvik Viking Centre to see some of Britain’s most exciting archaeological discoveries. Plus every Saturday there’s the York Farmer's Market, where you’ll find fresh and local produce from the area.
