The village of Grasmere sits in the heart of the Lake District, a 15-minute drive north of Lake Windermere and close to the banks of River Rothay. Described by poet William Wordsworth as ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found’, explore the rugged mountainous landscape around you, stroll 15 minutes down to the pretty Grasmere lake, or perhaps learn a little more about Wordsworth himself at Wordsworth Grasmere - the very house he came to live in aged 29, Dove Cottage, around 15 minutes' walk away. You can also lose yourself wistfully in childhood memories at Beatrix Potter's bucolic world at Hill Top, her 17th-century farmhouse, a half-hour drive away.
