Whitford House Hotel Wexford, New Line Road, Wexford, Ireland

As the historic gateway to Ireland’s Ancient East, Wexford is steeped in history and legend. Sitting at the mouth of the River Slaney, the town is known for its Viking history, medieval streets and historic sites, like the 13th-century Westgate Tower, Selskar Abbey and St. Iberius Church. It’s also home to the National Opera House, and the famous Wexford Festival Opera takes place here every autumn (but of course you can enjoy performances of all kinds year round). Across Wexford Bridge, Curracloe Beach is a spot that shouldn’t be missed, whether you’re heading to the sandy shores with a picnic or choose to take it in whilst on the Raven Point Wood walk in search of red squirrels and grey seals.
