No visit to the Ribble Valley would be complete without sampling its sublime natural scenery, and you can easily take it in with a panoramic hike on Pendle Hill or a walk on the famous Tolkien Trail. Just a little further out, a short drive will get you to the Forest of Bowland, an acclaimed Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty: while you’re here, be sure to explore Chipping, one of the area’s most beautiful towns that was even mentioned in the 11th-century Domesday Book. On your way back, stop by the Tudor-era Browsholme Hall, Lancashire’s oldest stately home, before exploring the 12th-century castle in Clitheroe, a picturesque town that dates back to Anglo-Saxon times.
