Unwind at a historic adults-only Grasmere hotel with chic, Art Deco interiors - includes breakfast, dinner, tea treats and more
  • Lake District loveliness: A magical place to rest after hiking the world-famous fells and admiring mountains reflected in the lakes, the adults-only Bridge House Hotel has a charming, traditional façade and graceful Art Deco interiors in quaint Grasmere. Literary Lake District icon Wordsworth is buried in the churchyard opposite too.

  • Refurbished rooms: With a rich palette of ruby red, burnt ochre, amber and dusky blue, rooms hold period fireplaces, antique furniture and framed nature drawings. Deluxe rooms look onto the gardens, river or fells. Superior rooms hold a super-king-size bed and the luxurious Suites are the largest of all.

  • Rural dining: With floral banquettes, velvet armchairs and a free-standing log burner, the River Pantry and Tarnview Lounge are cosy hideaways plying guests with breakfast, freshly baked scones, cakes, drinks and Cumbrian charcuterie. In clement weather, sit on a wicker armchair on the Alcock Veranda or on the Wordsworth Patio within the peal of church bells.

Boasting some of the UK's finest scenery and most majestic views, it’s clear why so many succumb to the charms of the Lake District – and why it has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Packing a few pieces of famous Grasmere gingerbread in your rucksack, explore lakes, lush green valleys, ancient woodlands and mighty fells alongside good pubs and legendary tea shops.

The village of Grasmere sits in the heart of the Lake District, a 15-minute drive north of Lake Windermere. Described by poet William Wordsworth as “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”, explore the rugged mountainous landscape around you, stroll 15 minutes down to the pretty Grasmere lake, or perhaps learn a little more about Wordsworth himself at Wordsworth Grasmere - the very house he came to live in aged 29, Dove Cottage, around seven minutes' walk away. You can also lose yourself wistfully in childhood memories at Beatrix Potter's bucolic world at Hill Top, her 17th-century farmhouse, a half-hour drive away.
