Renowned for its wildly beautiful landscapes, rugged sandy beaches and enchanting castles, Northumberland is undoubtedly among the UK’s most scenic spots. Your grand abode is the perfect place to experience refined country living, and the best place to start is with a leisurely stroll through the picturesque hotel grounds. More ambitious walkers can choose between 64 miles of marked hiking trails on the Northumberland Coastal Path, while classic country pursuits like golf and shooting are also available in the vicinity.

If your glamorous Georgian digs leave you wanting more, take a quick 15-minute drive to Alnwick Castle, the famed seat of the Dukes of Northumberland that has featured in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. After admiring the lavish state rooms and impressive gardens, head into the centre of Alnwick to walk through the quaint streets of this historic market town, perhaps browsing for your next read at the beloved Barter Books. Elsewhere, nature lovers will love spotting fluffy seals, puffins and more on the Farne Islands, while the mystical Anglo-Saxon ruins on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne are also well worth a visit.
